Top Six on Instagram for Bike Tips & Tricks
Want to get a quick fix on your biking but only have your lunch hour to do it, then check out these Instagram accounts to get tips, watch videos, and hear them dispel common mountain biking myths. And as we slowly head onto the trails post Covid. Working on your skills is a great way to brush off the cobwebs or get back into the groove safely.
The following list is a few of the people I look to for tips, tricks, or help with mtn biking. Hope you find one or two that speak to you. And as a side note, this started out as a top 5 list, but there are so many awesome people out there that you get 6. Enjoy.
1. Lindsey Richter - Liv Ladies All Ride
Lindsey Richter is definitely the top of the list for me. With her long running weekly series that have reached so many. Motivational Mondays - shows her softer side as she connects with riders through her own life experiences, exposing her heart, fears, dreams, and goals. Teachable Tuesdays are skills sessions broken down in easy to read parts with several videos showing what successful and failed attempts look like. I think this is important so people can learn to develop a discerning eye and see different scenarios and which one worked better. And Debunking bad myths she does with Angi Weston, another bike guru of mine, both powerhouses in the coaching world together they make a show not to be missed.
2. Katrina Strand - Strand Training
Katrina Strand is actually the first name I knew in cycling. ‘You asked, I’m Answering’ is her newest series and it’s a good one, covering questions asked by riders about anything from ‘why is my butt so sore?’ to ‘I can’t stop braking, how do I break this habit.’ Check out her feed to get the answers. Also a strength and conditioning trainer you will get the bonus tips on form and getting the most from a functional body.
3. Kat Sweet - Sweetlines
Kat Sweet has has the longest running women’s slopestyle event, Sugar Showdown. So it’s only fitting that her posts have a freestyle angle. With a Junior team, camps to cover every skill, gender, age, and has a new Youtube channel. If you don’t already follow her it’s about time. Based out of the Seattle area, Duthie Hill provides the best terrain for bike lesson, enabling Kat to teach anything from XC to dirt jumping. Kat’s classes, clinics, and tips are a meowtastic time. Check her out.
4. Harlan Price - Take Aim Cycling
Recommend to me by my guru of biking Angi, I’ve been watching his new IGTV Skills sessions in which he works through different skills like line choice and bump jump progression. His edge to edge session is something I like to teach as well. Watch his videos and then get playful out there people. Harlan also does long term athlete training programs, and is a certified PMBIA Instructor and instructor’s trainer based out of Virginia. Check through his feed for more tips and tricks.
5. Angi Weston - Radical Roots Mtb
Angi is one of my heroes and good friend in the biking world. She does skills sessions, was just in a new podcast, debunks bad myths, and runs suspension clinics on Instagram with Lindsey Richter. Owner operator of Radical Roots Angi runs/help organize some for the best clinics in the PNW, from Transition Ladies, Laser Kittens, to Queens Of Dirt, she has clinics covered. Her fun, no pressure lessons, videos, and tips will keep you happy, relaxed, and ready to try a safe progression. Time to build your Radical Roots so you can become a strong rider!!
6.Victoria Rose - Ride Like a Girl Mtb Skills
The variety is awesome, she provides drills, and does them herself which inspires confidence. The roll down on the wooden stand was impressive, she track stranded then did a solid roll down a big drop. Based mostly out of Johannesburg and Pretoria, South Africa, she’s growing the ladies riding scene down there. Give her a follow.
Honourable mentions;
Ryan Leech - Ryan Leech Connection
The originator of online instruction Ryan Leech has led the charge with his 30 day wheelie challenge to Manual Masters class. Travelling the world riding stunts, teaching, and inspiring people with his bike skills. Ryan was kind enough to offer his Wheelie Challenge free to bikers during the COVID pandemic has probably kept a few people from going crazy while enabling them to progress their bike skills. With great videos, and breakdown lessons, these will help you become a master of your own bike.
Remy Metailler - Line choice guru
I think everyone know Remy when he became famous from his new lines in the Whistler bike park videos. Evolving to include trail breakdown videos, I added him because it great to see the options on the trails with a different set of eyes. Brake control is his talent and seeing it in extreme cases makes you aware of how important it is. His videos will make you see what is possible, but as we all know you should always ride within your own ability!
One of the main reason why I wanted to do this article is each one of these people do something that I admire, and that is sharing knowledge freely. That shows great courage and love of the cycling or any community. Hope you enjoyed the list and please feel free to comment below recommending your favourite bike tips’ guru.
***Love these tips and want more? All these people are available for private lessons, so hit them up and get the confidence you need to slay bikes. (We provide lessons too, lol! Shameless plug.)
